Amanda is the newly crowned Miss United America!! She is so proud to have represented the city of San Antonio and  to have been crowned Miss Texas at the state pageant in June. In October she won the national title of the title of
Miss United America.
Amanda is a 21 year old Education major attending Northwest Vista College and plans on transferring to UIW in January 2009. She hopes to become a 3rd grade teacher and later in life a child psychologist. Amanda is on the Dean’s list at school with a 3.8 GPA and also in Phi Theta Kappa an honors society for full time college students maintaining a 3.4 GPA or higher. She was also a member of her college cheerleading squad for 2 years. While going to school full time Amanda also works as a nanny for two loving families and enjoys every moment of it, as she loves children and the joy they bring! Amanda also volunteers time at local elementary schools helping teachers and helping students improve their reading skills.
Amanda was the young adult advisor for Girl Scout troop 7 of San Antonio and now most of the girls have become Juliettes, she now mentors them as a Juliette advisor and does various things with the girls helping them with school, obstacles in life, and always lending a listening ear. Amanda also has had the privilege to work at the University Of Texas Health Science Center Of San Antonio in the medical oncology division under the mentorship of Dr. Linda deGraffenried researching breast cancer. She was a summer intern for two years and has had many great opportunities resulting from her experiences there including several medical research papers published with her name as a noted author/researcher. This in mind Amanda feels strongly about breast cancer awareness and research and participates every year in the race for the cure. She enjoys spending her free time fishing, working with children, reading books, working out, eating buffalo wings, spending time with family and friends, swimming,  making memories with her Grandma Rose, dancing, and writing poetry, and scrap-booking.
